I asked the twitter family for pixel suggestions and dragon in a bumper car won this round. I’ve had some of these questions in my inbox for awhile so, sorry for taking so long. Also a big hello to all the new followers, hope you like comics and stuff.
teddybearsjunk asked you: in the same vein, I would totally pay money to play your flash game
Well don’t get your hopes up about any games getting made in the near future, but maybe one day in a galaxy far far away or even this galaxy i will make a game and you can maybe play it. It’ll be a pong clone and the ball will be pizza.

sneezypanda asked you: how do you go about treating the background in your works? you seem to have just enough background to make it interesting without being overpowering. What is your thought process in this regard?

I just try and keep it simple and i don’t really think about backgrounds all that much. Usually when i’m thinking of something I have a pretty clear idea of how i want it to look, that doesn’t mean it always ends up that way because it’s an awful long way from my brain to my hand. I just try and make a background that doesn’t steal the focus, that doesn’t mean you can’t have little focal points in the background. Just keep it simple.

gulpun asked you: I see Ocarina of Time fan art everywhere, glad to see you giving some of the other ones some love.

Well Majoras Mask is my favourite Zelda followed by Wind Waker. I’m certainly not saying i don’t like Ocarina of Time, i just like MM and WW more. So i don’t really feel that compelled to do anything from that game. Although I do have some fond memories playing it when I was a kid.

lkpdragune asked you: Just wanted to let you know I love the zelda comics. Keep up the great work.

Thank you! The zelda comics are fun to do and i’m glad a lot of people seem to have enjoyed them, although the 2nd part of the Majoras Mask comix kind of broke some hearts, don’t be sad lil zelda fans! It’ll be okay. Thanks!

unicornbread asked you: love-love-love-love your art ^_^

Four times the love, i think you have to marry it now. I’m pretty sure thats the rule. Thanksss.

becoolok asked you: Hey, I was just wondering how you do your illustrations ? do you use a graphics tablet ? Any tips on improving my own illustrations would also be good :) cheers Andy becoolok

I answered a similar question once ages ago but basically yeah I use a tablet. My weapons of choice is a Wacom Intuos4 and photoshop cs5. Thats an expensive set up though and theres a really good tablet out there made by Monoprice which is super cheap (unless you live in australia where the postage was more than the tablet itself BUT I DIGRESS) I haven’t used one but all the reviews have been very favorable. As for improving your own illustrations, like everything in life the more you do it the better you will get. Draw every day, draw while you watch tv, draw on the train. It doesn’t have to be for a reason but the more you draw the better you will get.

Thanks for all the questions guys!

Jake Lawrence is an illustrator based in Melbourne, Australia with hopes and dreams of ending up somewhere a little more interesting. Here you will find comics, illustrations, doodles, gifs, animations and pretty much anything else that he creates. He wrote this in the third person because it sounds more professional.

I use Photoshop for basically everything.
